Surprised that this isn’t even more popular. A required reading to understand the critical origins of healthcare in America, inspired by a great written diary of one humble and tenacious midwife in Maine. I can’t believe that this work of fiction is so true to Martha Ballard’s original life story. Inspirational.

The author, Ariel, does a great job of representing each scene. Whilst I personally don’t have evidence of what it was like living in 1790 in Maine, the book had me transported back through time the whole way.

I feel that the justice North receives at the hands of Ariel in this book is cathartic. Yes, nobody has sympathy for rapists, but boy does it feel good to have a douchebag like North be shut up properly in the manner he was in this story.
